STEAMGARD® Technology/ Textile Production

STEAMGARD® has helped improve efficiency and lower the rate of steam consumption for textile plants producing a wide array of products, from the lightest printed rayon to heavy denim and flannel.

THE STEAMGARD SYSTEM® is used in carpet mills, which produce heavier weight backing and end product, and in bleacheries and dye plants that produce colored yarns for fabric.

Major textile producer eliminates repair, replacement of mechanical steam traps, improves thermal efficiency, cuts steam usage 37%

STEAMGARD® Technology/Summary

Working with a textile manufacturer, STEAMGARD developed and executed a condensate optimization project to achieve three goals:

  • Upgrade the quality of product by improving thermal efficiency
  • Cut down on labor and material costs to service regular steam traps
  • Eliminate losses through conventional steam traps

STEAMGARD® Technology/Results

  • Overall steam usage dropped by 37% and improved thermal efficiency from 1.7 lbs. steam/yard to 1.4 lbs. steam/yard
  • Increased thermal efficiency on Dye House recovery heat exchanger
  • Achieved higher temperature on Dock Heater and Finishing Range to reduce steam pressure
  • Eliminated maintenance required in retrofitted area
  • Eliminated need to replace failed mechanical steam traps every month
  • Achieved consistent temperature on finishing range to "significantly" reduce product rejected for wrinkling
